All Bran

Posted on February 3rd, 2012 by craighope

I eat All Bran for breakfast.  Its the old person cereal right?

When I say All Bran, I’m talking about the original.  Not the frilly spin offs with granola or fruit.  The original… which looks like shredded cardboard pieces.  To be honest, kinda tastes like that too.

I’ve grown to like it.  …who am I kiddin, grown to tolerate it.

Calorically, it works out well for dieting.  In terms of bowels, I can’t say either way.  Things seem normal.

I’m 41 and being a good boy.

An oldie but a goodie.

“If you are in your 20′s and not liberal, you don’t have a heart.

If you are in your 30′s and not conservative, you don’t have a brain.”

… if you seldom used logic and reason in your 20′s and 30′s, you are just plain dumb.

Bobbleheads for everyone

Don’t you find Bobbleheads fun?  I do.  I like the cartoony expression that you can make them agree or say no to.

No more paper news

skiff reader

electronic newspaper

I have been waiting for this technology to come to fruition for a long time.  There is nothing more green than this.  By using an electronic news reader like this one, you can have your “newspaper” in the format you are familiar with without the black smudges on your fingers.  The feature I like is not having to wrestle with the folds.  That drives me nuts.

This will save paper.  (note: my angle on recycling is less about hugging trees, but more about being lazy and hauling the used papers to the bin.)

This format could save failing news organizations.  Instead of subscribing to a paper version which people are not buying (using the internet), you can pay a smaller subscription fee to read online.

As I understand it, this reader is not ready for general use but it is getting closer.  The Kindle is precurser/prototype.  The only difference is that this product will be able to show you the publication as it would have been printed.   Here is a rough example from Google Fast Flip.

I do understand that people can consume their news via the internet on a laptop or iPhone etc, but this product will re-introduce your favorite easy chair or couch into your Sunday morning reading the news.

Wii-lly Wii-lly fit by June

Posted on January 6th, 2010 by craighope

Don’t put off your weight loss goals too long.  Your spring vacation is just around the corner.  Summer will be here before you know it.  Getting in shape is not hard, it is not easy, it is both.  Like Nike in the 80′s… “Just Do It”.

If you are looking for a fun way to get off of the couch and get some exercise, buy a Wii Fit (or Wii Fit Plus). The Wii Fit plus has some extra stuff that is more fun. This is a great way to track progress (weight, BMI).

Nebraska and the HealthCare “reform”

Posted on December 27th, 2009 by craighope

The obvious outrage with the Ben Nelson deal is that a state gets special treatment.  (Read the Article)

Kudos to Senator Ben Nelson for leveraging a deal, but shame on Washington for allowing this special case to get this passed.  As a conservative, I applaud his fight for his state.  The bigger outrage is this statement below.  This statement is the general problem with the health care reform as it stands now.  Consumer costs are going to go up.

Mutual of Omaha and other Medigap providers won’t see a surge in customers and revenue because of health care reform, Thompson said. So if Medigap plans aren’t exempted from the new, industrywide tax on health insurance companies, Medigap recipients would see their premiums rise, he said.”

Cat Litter – recycled paper

Posted on December 17th, 2009 by craighope

For those who chimed in regarding Griffey’s paw issue (dried, cracked, bleeding), the end result was a trip to the vet to discover an allergy from the litter thus causing the irritation on the paws.

The vet gave us some antibiotics to take for the infected paw (both an oral and a topical).  His paws are much better after a few days.

The vet also recommended changing the litter.  We got some of the recycled paper pellet litter ($19 a 40lb bag).  It is more expensive but the upside is a better smelling litter box and no dust from the odor stopping crap.  We keep ours in the basement and normal litter has a dusty film that gets everywhere (not pleasing).  I am a believer in the recycled stuff.

As a side note:  There were some stains that needed removed.  We used the Natures Miracle stuff.  This stuff works great for any pet stain/odor.  For serious stains, you can pour it on and let it soak into carpet and carpet pad to do the work.

Order online from Pet Mountain, or find it at your local petco/petsmart.
